I believe I started a post last year in about the same way, but it ended up being a draft the entire year! Living life sure gets in the way, never mind having a family of three kiddos under 12. Well, I think it's time to change things a bit this year.

With some inspiration from my dad, I've been baking up some Egg Tarts, just like the ones you find at the Chinese bakeries with some good results! So easy and delicious with tea or coffee! I encourage you to try this!

CHINESE EGG TARTS
Makes 11 to 12 egg tarts
Ingredients
70grams sugar or less (I use about 1/3 cup),
150mL water,
2 eggs,
40 mL evaporated milk,
11 to 12 store bought frozen tart shells (sweetened)
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
Measure sugar and water into a saucepan and heat until sugar dissolves. Remove from heat and cool sugar water until no longer warm. Beat in eggs and evaporated milk. Strain egg mixture into the tart shells to eliminate foam. It's more pleasing to the eye to have a smooth, silky custard surface. Bake in a preheated oven for about 15 to 20 minutes or until a toothpick stands upright in the custard filling. Let cool and and enjoy warm, yummy egg tarts!

From mid-summer to now mid-fall, we've had a mini- summer get-away, the start of a new school year, visits from dear old friends, ongoing renos to the home, family health issues, and a laptop trauma. Needless to say, very little has been accomplished in terms of knitting, so there's been very little "down" time lately. However, as fall is my fave season of the year, it wouldn't be right without pulling out the camera to capture and share the beautiful vibrant colours of our street, especially when my D reminds me that I should put up a post on the blog.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: undefinedpx; height: undefinedpx;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSEXpIRA40VgntxeeFoa3BNW_cqCQldoKWwRY46G2oCm-KkPeBizslPCRx6_QQwHsMQuN3A5WrE9Ii2NNdDuIPNBcJYsGtFuxkQwxi5EeTnzy_M5cj54Zs2GbEc8e_kM9Q04O2/s400/K+Raking+%232.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5534665303527163970" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: undefinedpx; height: undefinedpx;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfTe7PqRt9YW0l9X7aQlLBbLiIQWaq9uzh7n60Mif_fbsuqQNlxYHl5ESM7A_tAMEBXlP7fMeYVKxXmfLHTLf1Z7gG0csDcqUYvEoy8IRRzWtFxReFAv-AwKXr4GhehaJ_egls/s400/K+Raking+%231.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5534665296357122418" />My K (20 months) is now doing everything in her power to get her way and keep up with her brothers!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: undefinedpx; height: undefinedpx;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiq4I3_PjeFr87TrbfMH2Fl3LruyLhO0sv4gwROU9BmOKwSw8uKFn5HWQxvtSkZ6um6lqaBT_1rHbcjaZp8BIsHv5vbf5TZEcExVoqaVF2xjTZCtZMg4h8BxG3cDEPR_7gAV2Q9/s400/Dylan+Solo.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5534669540009140642" />
D is now outgrowing all his clothes and thinks he's starting to look like a teenager! You see, the park is situated right beside the Iona Sewage Treatment Plant. Surprisingly the boys weren't too thrilled or impressed with the whole idea of walking on top of such a pipe, but they had fun throwing rocks into the ocean. They also had fun picking blackberries (especially the husband) and exploring the beach. D enjoyed beachcombing while R came up with some imaginary fun with the sand. K just wanted to eat all the blackberries and run into the ocean! We'll definitely come back to this unique park, as it is also a great place to ride your bike, walk, go birding (as it is home to over 300 species of birds) and watch the planes land and take off (as the Vancouver International Airport is situated right next to the park).

<img style="display:block; I may be a master at starting projects, but I have to admit finishing is not a forte. Here is a pair of Trekking XXL socks (in slipped-stitch rib) that I was giddy about getting off the needles a couple weeks back. I've been wearing them around the house and just love the look and feel of them! But it ONLY took three years to finish them, having been on vacation with us twice! Here is the enthusiastic post about starting these socks three years ago.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 322px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBufzKWQJPrvc5q3vFJLI64nyS27s8oLQTqzhlUQ6ZBAGBpoOZXDuLfL5zP8WUU8OQufMFhZzadycm-jPQ08yQzhU9zjwCDfabfKLZY0ujZ7Vm1NOWYYFevyF0KrprPmIqFEO4/s400/IMG_0710.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5465990509378067074" />However, I am working on completing more projects this year. I also finished R's Kool-Aid bed socks recently. I randomly dyed the yarn just for fun last year and didn't really have any project in mind until the idea came up for R's socks, as he likes wearing socks to bed. I'm happy to say these crazy, striped socks just took a couple of days from start to finish.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13436194508256278491noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30805577.post-35580465361689495312010-04-29T13:59:00.000-07:002010-04-30T10:42:06.875-07:00What We Did After School Yesterday<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijWb92AD0icozITFMn7OSgvGxowm83sONEtvIAiaKDerFaI5BCPyKIpbyxZXRdtZm4v3VXhRT6gHSDhMHjhXKBKL1M30QXA7q5_LmRDT8ZotvLdj6AZA3i2hEK7V0qgMhC9ZpN/s400/P4281122.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5465667705055724482" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGP7alAoa83I6tNPIWPzRdRy1LeAz7bW-CtzpvpDg46m1KLv8xYOVq3riFyn-THde03gf1vt-Jyb6idm7uCEpmJdYOOvayvlVoRH4fnapySUqnhl15-i36W7GExgWmjXOXwq0i/s400/P4281118.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5465983482729378002" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdmUmdCAWf_joPG-t8P612zyAADe245hUNDxXHfq3AQghiPDQMYzW-SDA3uXbd9HTyyndlJgZbagQ8ZGHwwp9Jwl6T8irOEMGjQa_Ykz73Z2LpVRuY339gMTKwGFYp7lXkE7B_/s400/P4281107.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5465983495589653698" />Not too far from our home is a favourite spot of mine in the city, the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Gardens. So... since I had a day off from work yesterday, I decided that it would be a good day to go on a special after school outing. Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Gardens is not a big garden like the Van Dusen Gardens, but it's big enough for encountering and exploring interesting plant life, pond life, and just wildlife in the urban setting. It's a nice change from the playgrounds and city parks. The boys enjoyed spotting the koi fish and turtles near the surface of the pond, analyzing the bamboo, seeing a blue heron in the weeping willow tree, and just being in such a beautiful, peaceful place amongst so many people in the middle of the city. I also don't think my three minded the short walk to the Chinese bakery nearby either, which also involved passing many toy and gift shops along Pender. We'll definitely have to make this outing a more regular part of our activities!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13436194508256278491noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30805577.post-68139901590627749922010-03-15T12:31:00.000-07:002010-03-15T13:43:20.061-07:00A New Technique<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 267px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgh9qeWlsxhzKka9pfxDlrfXmFUe1jDKVcMl_ZMoBL3JGazMLMeZW_lX9DBDfY0X3M_XU26HSSsEbmYATGSeVZ9BaWRP3J1oGVLRrFo8TH4LZIiHv-GRSgpeGbpQccaa2ufNPW_/s400/IMG_0593.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5448947723913421346" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 267px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYC5_3AM1igiXmJhWArLeAle6yeq0HVUViNROIxTuUMbOJziGakp80qzloAGYA_0b23FTBHIWzDxf3lbOc59mPxYAKZWMdZtk2tc-E41R-InJb9DOTdwYO9Y8cWWVdaQwlJSsV/s400/IMG_0581.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5448947715814902194" />So, now that I'm back at work and off maternity leave, knitting has slowed down even more. I've really enjoyed my year off with baby K and the family, without the worry of prepping for and going to work. However, I've had to accept that there's no more camping out in front of the tv, knitting, while baby naps and the boys are off at school. Now, I just sneak in a few rows here and there and late at night when the kids have all gone to bed.

Just before work started, I decided to try my hand at entrelac by knitting a hat. I chose the Greentrelac Beret pattern from Ravelry to learn the technique and I must say that it's a lot easier than it looks. In fact, it's downright addictive, especially when you have a fun yarn with long colour repeats. I've used Nashua's Wooly Stripes, currently on sale at Dressew here in Vancouver until it all sells out.

This turned out to be a snug cap for me, instead of a beret, as I cast on less than what was asked for in the pattern, but that's okay. If I were to make this cap again, I’d make the ribbing 1 inch longer and increase the CO to 72 sts or more instead of the 66 sts that I used to try for a slouchy beret. I also modified the top of the hat by continuing the entrelac tiers until I decreased to picking up 2 sts for each diamond. Anyone who's thought of trying this technique and haven't should really just jump right in, because it really isn't that difficult at all. You'll be pleasantly surprised at how simple it really is!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13436194508256278491noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30805577.post-26466217733013787602010-01-06T11:25:00.000-08:002010-01-06T12:26:32.613-08:00To Another Knitterly Year!<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2oYtRqJituyrRKi4KtuAz1Y2PUAqgb6A2zK3rbPlZQfeoc_oquQHhR0jgB0bnaNBIYRJb-dTDmmFpFtusfPDVZZqiDTQHqt-jtmMcBHS09hS0HQdRavsEIKQQo2PyjEWK6pAn/s400/P1040887.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5423712158896485874" />
A Happy New Year's to all! It's been a while since my last post, but reflecting upon the last twelve months, I'd have to say it's been an awesome knitting year! I've been able to finish a lot more projects this past year than I've ever been able to and get back into spinning. I joined sweetgeorgia's fibre club and made it to Gibsons' Fibrefest. I've enjoyed knitting for our new baby (cardis, socks, mary-janes, Pebble Vest) the boys (Kiddie Cadet hats and mitts), a niece and nephew (Boheme and Owl Vest), a sister (Give a Hoot Mittens), and friends (various mitts and hats--baby to adult). I still have quite a few unfinished projects around the house (mainly for me), but I'll slot them into my 2010 New Year's resolutions.

The last days of 2009 were spent making the comfort dolls above. They were inspired by a comfort doll that D received in the hospital when he was three after undergoing a tongue tie procedure. After I found the pattern and made one out of leftover worsted cotton (the one in the striped red shirt), I couldn't stop. These dolls are very addicting! If you have a stash as big as mine with a lot of partial skeins here and there, this is THE pattern for you to make some little person very happy! My boys even carry their doll off to bed with them.

Health and happiness to all and may 2010 be full of new adventure and opportunities!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13436194508256278491noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30805577.post-73339671578474220262009-10-31T15:10:00.000-07:002009-10-31T15:23:52.440-07:00Happy Hallowe'en!<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 267px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5zK8844DY9OsWGpQGSKfgnbCrI_3HZobTwDD6GyNOhntv9OJRvTa4nEgW2mqXyL10tTFIeWBainwzDe3uA0Qc25Dvg3q4hYv9qGzBzeeJO9idexRb29tcKw46tdtpfaIQWBj-/s400/IMG_0426.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5398891312106867426" />
Happy Hallowe'en Everyone!

The forecast is for rain today, but it's been a beautiful sunny fall day here so far... We'll be doing a little decorating today, carving some of the four plus pumpkins that we have around the house, roasting some of the seeds, and going a trick or treating! The boys are pirate brothers this year. One of them was going to be a "DJ", but changed his mind last minute. Don't ask. I have no idea why the five-year-old wanted to be a "DJ".Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13436194508256278491noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30805577.post-33503367152410164302009-10-15T10:55:00.000-07:002009-10-15T11:31:27.854-07:00Looking at TreesIt was back to Van Dusen this past weekend to look at the trees! It was a glorious day to take in colors, feel bark, see wildlife and herons flying overhead, explore trees using a mirror and make leaf rubbings.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqxqdLa6Ndaz2DUwAfbi6gBli0mUf3GYJeOqxaNqk0l9dYbOzD_1cvctstQP0EWDIiF3H0ntZPbNbmctTjZ31A-q70S42Ip6wU9Rc4sRcdccPjeI7-3W5CNnrKwih-W4jwDe9K/s400/PA100638.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5392887923446985650" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg557HlAFt00GNSN1tYL1uGh5-hO7dZ8J8SmXGHl3x4-c-6AInCqxXubwm2C3Syp4sQoHpx07vElbElWvLaLujG7TdNOVQn83OsexU6i39p6t6d1cT26gB7B45nRLZClHYTPVse/s400/PA100637.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5392887912376933042" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrF0vMHmnI2H5c5J-GBT02nDF_RiIVtP81Y8EI8GW5_B0MtnhwvNA32DrVtRkrOM4m4KUF3cBRGWRhKouXJ-eBnzhsv2SDhy9fWM-qEdrxG7pMeNR3hHXbGu9sfCOm3UxUmiiN/s400/PA100645.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5392887940683110242" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9faBU0-8ZNQSnyDVZCyy_KyiKWgD13pcDVMPtGYUjvNLGGsmjjVhIYEqJ7Kfg2y5LBqxn3Mn-J2uU1ljB0ZZoayAoqZ956V3jcYPBc5DSMN3KBY7Nk2fJn4sMnjJMWI0oUwZN/s400/PA100644.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5392887932545396594" />Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13436194508256278491noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30805577.post-79314054434162741242009-10-03T11:34:00.000-07:002009-10-04T22:14:35.687-07:00Progress on the Fall CardiganEveryday, I hope to have a little time to work on my Peace Fleece Cardigan. But, sometimes, I'm hoping all day long....like Friday, when it travelled with me everywhere to the boys' school twice, Science World, and to my bedside, but I didn't knit one single stitch.

Progress may be slow, but it's still progress. Here's where I'm at.... I just need to finish a sleeve and a bit before adding a closure to the front.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 267px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFSAquyJPys05Xyf8Wa5qb7XVgWJ6BkK-B4CyvK9CLvsG2ETgaX9KvXLPUbW6genI4pMmuKAC8l6tT2WHb0MbXZoozWp8QBngyQUFbxZp1JeqmkDrLdo6NfXrxxH8pCLAblpPP/s400/IMG_0378.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5388977735561490258" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 267px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEitCAyUsiL52440H0SMm0j8WEPNUvo3wyMZv03Tsaz3IS58QFZxPOJBHhSnhKbRBS5qTleFKJSXCdSofcq8DsZMCVxfd6wUDgT_7Xs81YzjKflOKxjNNHP85JI9PC55T6BshX7O/s400/IMG_0369.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5388977719382116818" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 267px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdIAy0y6pqr2x7ifnIUiNrLBMsUmZQVWXj4mS-kEdw2jnztCiDPXGq5DDIgs_HPkH70jBD04wao8s9SPHky9PqnJt4dixBLMqn_MhoWmUMOUwqBzdc1rOZqesDJUuTJgeLSA8Q/s400/IMG_0372.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5388977710961358946" />Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13436194508256278491noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30805577.post-57341506145010857262009-10-01T13:15:00.000-07:002009-10-01T16:20:10.289-07:00The Magic of Fall at VanDusenThis past Sunday, the boys and I, along with K in the baby carrier, took in some gorgeous autumn colours at the beautiful VanDusen Botanical Gardens. We were lucky to participate in the family program, Plant Detectives: Seeds and Leaves. Although we've visited the Gardens in the past for Seedy Saturday and their annual Garden Plant Sale, it was D & R's first "real" trip INTO VanDusen, an educational garden where they learned how seeds travelled and how and why leaves changed colours at this magical time of year. The boys had the chance to explore and run around the 55-acre Gardens, and I'm happy to report that they had a great time, asking to return as soon as possible! VanDusen is a must-see, inspirational place with an amazing collection of plants and trees, animals, ponds, a maze, a waterfall, and a host of passionate educators for young and old alike! We can't wait to go back for our next visit!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjG3BWiKta2Ymx_OmNzDXhw_kiSIRvQ8u-u3i7c1zof_facdsKl8Oa4wBoo71kOk1Ax0ihUypuNpNT8Jl_80nhpHekH6gJZ6cwsnO0CfLQDaIZRHmH_FYVUHVOYqzwB_3Fj-1gJ/s400/P9270590.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5387728298566941746" />

On a scavenger hunt for seeds

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEyWMCDGO5MC4TljEiU3XHuJcpvlnsa_oemk2Sz1asUgwNfJbS2ByHGbu87Q-2B0pmfSz1hMREBao3MB83CGhotiGPivbpBgtMb58EanA6E9u3eLhzZmDOJqcLIVvShWNhm8XM/s400/P9270593.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5387728288603391554" />

Looking for "swimmer" seeds
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13436194508256278491noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30805577.post-67293846246773503942009-09-23T14:20:00.000-07:002009-09-24T16:48:30.755-07:00My Favorite Month<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQ0B8Unsv954yDxmS5QCIVQz8OI0wdgsOfXk3m1YQ_2q4sIiswlrJdojL8v0wBWoFHsx7VTQAbuJDrCHJtck0ezM_IyF4-kPmI-c-KDsgnK42cPUHi7VdtnyzIFvcnJBH7wTRM/s400/P9070536.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5384917825061989570" />The first day of fall was yesterday, but I've already been celebrating the coming of fall for the past month or so, obsessively working on my Peace Fleece Fall Sweater, anticipating the start of school for the boys and going for acorn hunts whenever and wherever we spot oak trees.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5FdyuCqDoyzEmGOiNP-97Qa70vSK55tvsYRl8tuPGhdPez-A9hlpv8UXb-fsUZ4mgy-wYWgTR5fja7tPQpiOcewQoSIeuu6VjgyJJiW0ecvYYTBSmGPToC1RYpcZVbqK5Ijru/s400/P8210407.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5384917817188288882" />The past two months have been a blur, for K's already seven months old! She's now eating solids-- rice cereal, oatmeal, and fruit and veggie purees. She's soo... on the verge of crawling, having no trouble rolling over from her back to all fours, moving forwards and back, as if to propel herself forward like a canonball! Utterly fascinated by our cats, K doesn't think twice about grabbing a fistful of fur if the cats happen to brush past her. We really have to watch her carefully so that she doesn't proceed to stuff her hands into her mouth! She's a "taster", something new to us, as D and R did not do this at her age. We'll have to be more vigilant about picking the Lego pieces off the floor. Above is a pic of K at six months. Last month, we had gone daytripping to Gibsons to check out the Fibre Festival and the surrounding area for possible future (camping?) visits.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXKT2hPGkW3q-b2xXrKOIEp-5nf6VyKxY3WVxjlqmn-mGQksMlaSLzGQ3YIcCgbsunne09qkB9jmOZ4o71TU5tcXnNu4y4cB1hgn8Mwqc0pCCRo1mTA8HqMENOW9uf-OxQiTnI/s400/P9090565.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5384917112793645906" />And another milestone has passed, as our sweet R entered Kindergarten about two weeks ago! My brothers, sister-in-law, and 14-month old twins, A and Z arrived just as the second (or is it the third?) heat wave hit Vancouver, so there were lots of outings that involved playing with water to cool down. We became tourists within our own city, visiting Stanley Park on more than one occasion--once to the water park and another to Second Beach Pool--one of the best places for family-friendly fun! Our local haunts, Trout Lake and Robson Park, were also well visited.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhr77g8SO83EleC6XebxJCF_HxLeNFg5O_9BKQrdw0iYcap2b_v1w2XPn7bnq6h1nmgOCmIgX8kvTZCRqgaCgZ2caQBZ3J4h-qmii57Hmzw2Qc8wI2rvjD04uZMqQLxXJs1rxrB/s400/P7290241.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5367065314727582866" />
Stanley Park Water Park

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 267px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgtN_55ZWkru_y0nj6oBiWOAQEg9M6M6Dcmp0AJ5Ozxaf_GFEXuMb0YOBkeRXbRFJoOEliSLK-SqoCoIgXoUMCiuvvRbC9XCwrA3054kLC9seRgx5ovkK4xMZV0BUdX0Ne4uwWv/s400/IMG_0194.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5367065306623705442" />
cooling down in Trout Lake

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 267px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUHGMKgAeDarJ9q4dcR6WSZ5uI0QgjODtGh-8-Bo0APfvXnuU5hOWWZaKMZK6VRVCKDddz280gKeKD4ig4cSOpy-KKx0I_pUf047KZSA7zMG2a-CxaI24CIU8_vehd3pZevqEP/s400/IMG_0182.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5367065302481531538" />
cousins at play

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 267px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9UJCd4QBkvJTza78XebM_pqVUoY0RQRBj_8MkWb2r1FCheyrZLhygTYyBscpFNU1zF0r1b6QwtLPLbfEZdQcRFKKawqqvOxBoul1onmGDZwWcpVrkXwaFPtV_xEtaVj2KSMe5/s400/IMG_0217.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5366901360216651938" />
nothing like sand to spark imagination

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBvxQmN0yp2c4gfCkR6Zn8loz5o9ge_goevRqP4cFcM8DSc1hNzewIFn3CbS3Up9VqTwsu5yah2KxstJvjbhHR2JzeHvB-25sAjgm6hwwCqsyWcyaK90UbBxzo6xlSxZjejEaO/s400/P7270219.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5366898729066744706" />
some r & r at Robson Park Pool

However, that's not to say that playing with fiber was forgotten.... I was actually forced to dig out and dust off the Ashford Traditional to be able to spin my July fiber, Summer Twilight from sweetgeorgia. My bobbin-lead Louet S10 kept breaking my spun singles with its overly aggressive "takeup" onto the bobbin, so I had to switch wheels. It was getting frustrating trying to spin thin on the Louet, and there was no way I was going to waste any more of my new yummy panda fiber (a blend of superwash merino, bamboo, and nylon) that I was aiming to spin in fingering weight.

So after a visit to Birkeland Brothers to purchase some extra bobbins, I'm now enjoying spinning on a wheel with Scotch tension, one with a lot gentler "takeup". I can spin a lot thinner and easier without the stress of breaking the single when joining fiber. Sometimes I wonder why I waited so long to use this wheel. It's a great wheel for a fairly new spinner, like me! Some photos will be posted as soon as I fill up a bobbin or two....

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKsJBIvmrwTzt-9En4uw2wEaUvQhhxDSfWJI5L1IY-i0qSlnVKDe3FryVZaTP-SYN787EmIfLm3uLFta8NPS7s8GFRwohvTHhNHXvA1ovvnCsaR3D5IHoQZchn2DvgvaZ7peR1/s400/P7310296.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5367061086132424546" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgIjqCHaDHMvxNFS42kysuB27-qV_0MwT-y-hQdZAgIIDW0Nl5CThZs28gRbhkDfQ3a6nm7_mnCJGiWdbilKreFQS6B_tCJ7UGDLRnQ9AHBhLRRv6b82Sl-y2_DxmO5_XcQ6BRc/s400/P7310294.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5366901353407569314" />
K is now 5 months!

In other exciting news, K is now well into her fifth month in this world! Here's my Banana Pancakes all spun up and twist set in 2-ply. Even my seven-year-old couldn't resist hugging the new skein of superwash merino handspun right after being wound up on the niddy noddy.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 267px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDVahIB5Ym2_prBBwK0szu2S8krgOpJhRxUkEfJKRhWp9knbqXUFqe5W_cRdCLsXaOnccNmd000SKTRprsFomKJPRsiI_6VmZsDwA-1mHdMkUh9dLfQQWeARcdxFuqH-3fGEiZ/s400/IMG_0147.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5362069456605607922" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 267px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQG5JCYYLVb-Ed0xzMvuHuWcwEqS8thG4ynGKwsiZ4Fz1wjmj_UrhJ8uGyF5ycafK8BMH-uN8SBhAtAxQUxw9ZwfKWj8NzqPvRo61BS0Nd6DUc6aX4lBesFTU3TwcvZOBl0eOP/s400/IMG_0149.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5362069466829154082" />Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13436194508256278491noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30805577.post-76947389256440204102009-07-05T13:06:00.000-07:002009-07-05T15:10:20.879-07:00Picked Up Banana Pancakes<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjAH6MdEIB2gfjLFZyShNfka6ej1QDPvDJ4JY40HAUSOGOfFNQjhyphenhyphenMrXVHfGMUkqamvER07zgWA2XZpy6YDXlJRJtlPXDretLTXsQsf7KlusPtvjOjPPAD1NNIawb6Gj6qOweob/s400/P7010075.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5355076603506535890" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXwFqrqQDcRTHTHGnXL5sItclaxPL-qk8bnuzrJGtEcZLUPn37ypB4vdgT6T6nCy3aApFbDscwEe4_F-9gYOFGI9vsfPTsvnsLz5wpY-3uJSIkErrdHzRrDnthYyNxAzqsSr7f/s400/P7010071.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5355076601202285714" />In between party planning for D's 7th birthday last week, I managed to go pick up my June fibre from sweetgeorgia. I was pleasantly surprised to find some primarily bright, happy yellow superwash merino in the bag, aptly named Banana Pancakes. I'm not normally drawn to yellows since I don't usually wear this hard-to-wear colour for asians, but I'm curious to find out how this spins up colour-wise. I've spun merino before and just love it! It's super soft and easy to spin. I'll aim to spin it in a 2-ply worsted weight..... if I ever get to it, that is......<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 339px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgO8zjEkpXaxR7t6Y5NE-_8O5iXSXZg_eNjgidkZWa2WUiiuxTeNcSUbitrB7i-4pVpPzfHNwS1LijHEBjPraJ6tYD0olYuGZAMYvcndNRp9qRXAiR54qbiB9AnGL0AU2Tf-hB/s400/P7030085.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5355099520469915682" />Presently, I'm recovering from D's successful 7th birthday party which took place at a U-pick strawberry field and at a busy spray park with a group of little people and moms. A good time was had by all. It's hard to believe my first, whom we used to call "our little man" as a baby, has now been a part of our family for seven years! R just graduated from preschool yesterday, and D is wrapping up Grade One today. There's a lot to celebrate and a lot to be grateful for. D is about to have a birthday and we can hardly believe we've had him for seven amazing years! R is happy to be moving on to "big boy" school in the fall, so that he can be with his older brother and "hang" with his friends. K, she's just discovered her hands and feet, and is quite perplexed and entertained by these wonderful moving parts that will someday help her learn how to knit! However, to our surprise, she's also learned how to protest as loud as possible with her set of strong lungs and by arching her back in an attempt to slide off the chair in the above pic. It's enough to put a squeeze on the brain and rattle the eyeballs out of their sockets!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13436194508256278491noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30805577.post-5098188007116775352009-06-17T07:46:00.000-07:002009-06-17T09:16:47.659-07:00Gifted On Time<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 268px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixPT8bywjAqcJ5sXSkb63-eehYlVhbRGxeloTA5PC0tiFGNpo-f4c6Fe39vWO65MWyRn7ZLL5rzco305F62xII2z02Bn2EGCvAEHkznZyopY5lyblYpwaXsduQ8ROCeUQ2X1fH/s400/P5280165.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5348310012538902914" />This little set, completed in May, was delivered just two days before a friend's baby boy was born last week. The yield: approximately 150 yards or 133 metres of squishy softness for... maybe.... fingerless mitts? Purty, isn't it? I think the colourway would have been even better with more deeper browns in it, but it's pleasing and calming to the eye nevertheless. It's also been so long since I've Navajo plied that I actually had to look up a tutorial to refresh myself! I think what that really means is that I have to keep up the spinning and plying.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13436194508256278491noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30805577.post-20539309650588896852009-06-11T10:38:00.000-07:002009-06-11T21:13:23.441-07:00This Girl Has a Voice<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgclVIGjzYdEUjBlo8IM1rx1EMbPyB3Xg2jDDhxMWZv9kn2NTqdvvEsAJjbLWfOyVh6OAKxOrIy7C8W9A8mcBEgwtjzZckpLrEO-K7tXoX2wdgzPZr80gXrlFQltKatWDondRbV/s400/3617621232_976406ba05.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5346145620249580162" />Our happy K has a loud clear voice and knows how to use it! It's soft and easy to spin, I'm happy to find, as it's my first time spinning blue faced leicester. I'm a bit rusty in my spinning, but the feel of it all comes back to you. I have no idea what drafting method I really use, but I know it's not Paula Simmons' one-handed draw for "softness and speed". I bought Paula Simmons' book, Spinning for Softness and Speed, but I just can't seem to get the hang of her method as useful and practical as it sounds with three kiddies around me. I'm way more comfortable drafting with two hands and do my best to limit the work done by the left hand-- the one that holds the bulk of the fiber mass. I also predraft in preparation for spinning to get the most even results.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13436194508256278491noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30805577.post-5909919984379842232009-06-02T18:02:00.000-07:002009-06-02T21:53:50.095-07:00Owl Mitts<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEip-8w6ZP3tPdEIj3bHJtZi_2yTt6hNWOKVrNpyDuX1C4IG84npP490rFZnA450ZOE1ZUiCZTRkClkb7mbU_TAbfXGc8VcpNfQFefap70fsJvku_jvhuH1erRRoASZC29OUJS7b/s400/P5310201.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5342901822189799554" />I know it's nearly summer and I just gifted mittens to my sister who came home for a visit to meet her new niece. Easy pattern, really, one not too stressful for the sleep-deprived, "baby" brain..... one that may be also put to use for many Christmas gifts in the future.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13436194508256278491noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30805577.post-87992076913646410522009-05-28T16:29:00.000-07:002009-05-31T00:02:23.741-07:00Time to Kickstart the Spinning Mojo<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0-dHSOxX6I9Xi-yaXtgr4-f6J4P4eAEvn0rY6iyL1R7UGf5oISKLOdpVZOLhn7mVYNwVgs2i6pLI7fc0SfD3eDyd5MNn0yl8sZ83Nf54O3V7lNGeLFAjXFstgMaJD1BNB_p_f/s400/P5210195.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5341024290370435426" />Here's some beautiful blue faced leicester that I picked up from the talented sweetgeorgia more than a week ago. oh...so.... yummy!!!..... and the colors are just mesmerizing together ...hey, coincidentally, they're almost my blog colors too! D, who overheard the conversation, just couldn't help but wonder if his brother is insane.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13436194508256278491noreply@blogger.com0
